The modern flag of Egypt was officially adopted on 4 October 1984 and carries deep symbolism tied to Arab unity, revolution, and Egyptian sovereignty.

The three horizontal bands represent:

🔴 Red — the struggle against colonialism and sacrifice for independence.

⚪ White — the 1952 Egyptian Revolution and the peaceful overthrow of the monarchy.

⚫ Black — the end of oppression and foreign occupation.

At the centre stands the golden Eagle of Saladin, one of the most powerful symbols in Middle Eastern history. The eagle is named after Saladin (Salah ad-Din), the legendary Muslim ruler who defeated the Crusader states and reclaimed Jerusalem in the 12th century.

The emblem symbolises:

• Strength

• Power

• Arab unity

• Egyptian independence

The current tricolour design emerged after the Egyptian Revolution of 1952 and became part of the wider Pan-Arab colour tradition seen across many Arab nations. Today, the Egyptian flag remains one of the most recognisable symbols of the Arab world and modern Egypt.
