Marengo

Description:

Marengo was the legendary Arabian stallion of Napoleon Bonaparte and one of the most famous warhorses in history. Named after Napoleon’s victory at the Battle of Marengo, the grey stallion became the Emperor’s trusted mount during the height of the French Empire.

Marengo carried Napoleon across the battlefields of Europe, including the great victories of Battle of Austerlitz and Battle of Wagram, before accompanying him to his final defeat at the Battle of Waterloo.

Though small for a warhorse, Marengo was renowned for his endurance, courage, and ability to carry his rider across vast distances during some of the most demanding military campaigns of the age.

Captured by British forces after Waterloo, Marengo survived the fall of the Empire and became one of the most famous horses ever to live. Today, his skeleton is preserved at the National Army Museum as a reminder of the horse that carried Napoleon through history.

The horse that rode with an emperor from triumph to defeat.
