Haiti Flag – Haitian Coat of Arms Patriotic Shirt
The flag of Haiti is one of the most historically powerful national flags in the world, born directly from the only successful slave revolution in human history.
Its two bold colours — blue above and red below — symbolise the union of Haiti’s people after independence from French colonial rule in 1804. According to tradition, revolutionary leader Jean-Jacques Dessalines tore the white stripe from the French tricolour, leaving only the blue and red as a symbol of liberation and unity.
At the centre of the flag sits the Haitian coat of arms, placed on a white panel. The emblem is filled with symbols of independence, defence, and national pride:
- A royal palm tree crowned with the Cap of Liberty — representing freedom and independence
- Cannons, rifles, drums, anchors, and battle flags — symbolising Haiti’s readiness to defend its sovereignty
- Golden cannons and military trophies — commemorating the revolutionary struggle against colonial France
- The motto beneath the emblem reads:
“L’Union Fait La Force” — “Unity Makes Strength”
The blue and red colours have remained enduring symbols of Haitian identity, resilience, revolution, and freedom for more than two centuries.
