Title:

Iroquois Confederacy Flag (Haudenosaunee)

Description:

The flag of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy represents one of the oldest surviving political unions in the world. Formed centuries before the founding of the United States, the Confederacy united the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and later Tuscarora nations under the Great Law of Peace.

The white symbols are based on the historic Hiawatha Wampum Belt. The four connected squares represent the founding nations, while the central white tree symbolises the Onondaga Nation and the Great Tree of Peace beneath which the Confederacy was established. The connecting line signifies unity, alliance, and mutual defence between the nations.

Today, the flag remains a powerful symbol of Haudenosaunee identity, sovereignty, and one of history’s most enduring Indigenous confederations.
