North Korea — The Red Dynasty Standard
The national flag of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, officially adopted in 1948 following the division of the Korean Peninsula after the Second World War. The red field symbolises revolution and socialism, while the red star represents communism and the ruling Workers’ Party. The blue stripes stand for sovereignty and peace, separated by thin white bands symbolising purity and Korean identity. One of the most recognisable political flags of the modern era, this standard became synonymous with military parades, Cold War tension, and the isolated dynasty that ruled from Pyongyang across three generations of the Kim family.
