PRISCUS — Champion of the Colosseum
One of the most celebrated gladiators recorded in Roman history, Priscus fought during the grand opening games of the Colosseum under Emperor Titus in 80 AD. His legendary duel against the gladiator Verus became famous throughout the empire for its ferocity, endurance, and honour.
After a brutal battle in which neither warrior would yield, the crowd demanded mercy for both men. Titus granted the impossible — victory and freedom to both gladiators simultaneously. Their duel became a symbol of Roman martial virtue, courage, and mutual respect between warriors of the arena.
This design captures Priscus in the blood and dust of the amphitheatre: scarred, battle-worn, and standing before the roaring masses of Rome at the height of gladiatorial glory.
