Rhodesia — The Green & White Standard
Rhodesia — The Green & White Standard
A flag remembered for its striking heraldic design, colonial-era symbolism, and its place in one of Africa’s most controversial chapters of the 20th century.
Used by Rhodesia between 1968 and 1979, the green-and-white standard featured the national coat of arms at its centre — including the Zimbabwe Bird, heraldic shield, pickaxe, and antelope supporters — symbolising agriculture, frontier settlement, and British colonial heritage in southern Africa.
Today, the flag remains a historical and highly debated emblem associated with the former state of Rhodesia and the Bush War era that shaped modern Zimbabwe.
